Project description: Urban Design for 72nd Street and Underground Parking The City of Bogotá, under new zoning laws encouraged the design of new open spaces for both pedestrians and bicycle users, and at the same encouraged the use of public transport and underground parking near transit stations within the center core and highly congested areas. 72nd Street is considered the most important financial business district in Bogotá. It also holds a very large display of shopping and other institutional uses. One of the main objectives of the project is the recovery of the urban public space to the pedestrian, and at the same time to provide enough underground space for the prevailing parking needs. This is achieved by providing underground parking areas while enhancing the design at street level. 72nd street was also known to be an old stream called ‘Quebrada La Vieja’. Our design proposal departed from this idea of symbolically recovering this water feature for the enjoyment of all pedestrians, while preserving existing trees to provide a natural ambiance to the street. The underground parking is developed along the 72nd Street, between avenues 7a and Caracas. It offers a total of 1038 vehicular parking spaces and 168 spaces for motorcycles and bicycle visitors. With four entrances and four exits, it provides enough space for short and mid-term demands in the area.   Work performed: Architectural design
