Project description:
Architectural design and upgrade of the existing terminal
In 1993 the Eldorado Airport was in a critical moment in security and infrastructure. ICAO and FAA required the separation of arriving passengers and international departures, the expansion of all existing facilities, and compliance with international standards of operation among other topics. The work carried out responded to these specific demands, allocating resources to improve the safety and operation of El Dorado Airport. Initial designs contemplated improvements in domestic and international terminals. These works were developed between the years 1993 and 1994, meeting the expectations of the both the FAA and ICAO.
The first stage of design was aimed to renovate both passenger concourses which included: restoration of the national and international piers, installation of open hold rooms, new boarding bridges, a new emigration area, completely renovated Duty Free, Immigration and reception areas, new electrical, sanitary and other technical installations. This stage was executed with a year span.
Architectural Design in its second stage contemplated a complete upgrade of the El Dorado International Airport Terminal, including complete designs for the expansion and improvement of the Main lobby, check -in and back office areas, immigration, customs, airline support and complementary services for the Terminal. It also included a new access road and complementary exterior areas. This second stage was never executed by the Civil Aviation Authority.
